Lorch expands the Cobot Welding World with its iQS welding power source

The latest generation of power sources now also available with the Cobot

Lorch Schweißtechnik expands its Cobot Welding World with the iQS welding power source. This now makes the company’s latest power source generation available to its users for collaborative welding as well. The combination merges state-of-the-art welding processes and integrated digitalisation with Lorch’s tried and tested Cobot concept, resulting in an automation solution that meets the highest demands on welding quality and process safety while keeping operation simple.

Easy start into welding automation

The demand for flexible automation solutions keeps growing. A lack of specialists, smaller batch sizes, and rising diversity of variants challenge metal-processing companies to produce economically efficiently without implementing elaborate robotics projects. This is exactly where Lorch’s Cobot Welding World comes in: It allows simple entry into welding automation and is targeted at companies without any prior knowledge in robotics and at experienced automation users alike.

Cobot and power source with a single operating interface

Lorch now integrates the iQS to expand this concept by its latest generation of welding power sources. A specially developed interface was created for this to facilitate seamless communication between the cobot and the power source. Users can adjust and monitor all relevant welding parameters directly via the teach panel without having to keep walking back to the power source. Programming and process control happen on a consistent user interface that can be operated with various power source operation concepts, without any requirements to previous experience.

New welding processes and digital evaluation

The iQS also brings its welding processes to the Cobot Welding World. RCS (Rapid Current Shutdown) technology makes sure that the process runs cleanly, increasing weld seam quality and reducing spatter. Added to this is a new inverter that renders processes even more stable and calm. The Cobot version of the iQS safely integrates the feed roll, gas cylinder, increased water cooling, and cylinder cart into the overall system. It supplements the myCobot modular kit with components that can be combined by plug & play and retrofitted at any time.

The strengths of iQS include the recording of digital data such as welding values from the power source allowing the operator to visualise and evaluate them via Lorch Connect. This advantage now reaches automation as well with the cobot: It gives companies transparency of their welding processes where quantities and evidence are relevant and forms the basis for data-based optimisation of manufacture.

“The iQS with the cobot allows us to offer the highest quality class possible in welding. An experienced welder operating this combination will result in a premium solution,” says Caren Dripke, head of the robotics development department at Lorch. “The decisive element is not the company size, but the expected welding results.”

Welding know-how stays with the user

The Cobot Welding World remains faithful to its basic principle of welders guiding the cobot to the desired positions manually or via the teach panel to create the program sequence rather than programming it with complex robot languages. The necessary welding know-how is brought along by the user and will remain with them, while the cobot reliably takes over repeat tasks. Integration of the iQS now expands this concept by Lorch’s highest-performance welding technology.

Lorch Schweißtechnik GmbH is a leading manufacturer of arc welding systems for industrial applications, the demanding metal craft, as well as for use in automation with robots and collaborative robot systems. In-house developed helmet and torch systems add to ensuring optimal welding results. Lorch high-quality systems have been produced in one of the world’s most state-of-the-art welding system productions in Germany and exported into more than 60 countries for more than 65 years. Welding technology by Lorch combines great practical benefits, very simple operation, and high economic efficiency, setting new technology standards on the market. Lorch became part of DAIHEN Smart Solutions Europe, the European competence network of the listed Japanese DAIHEN Corporation, in 2025.
