Herrmann Ultraschall supports ocean cleanup initiative

As part of the „Herrmann Cares,” the 2022 Christmas donation of 10,000 euros will go to the non-profit organization The Ocean Cleanup to remove plastic waste from the oceans.

“With our ultrasonics welding technology, we can contribute to a functioning circular economy. But we know that many plastic products are still not disposed of properly and end up in the environment instead,” says CEO Thomas Herrmann, explaining the motivation behind the donation. „That’s why we want to help recover this valuable raw material to prevent damage to the environment.”

The Ocean Cleanup uses a specially developed collection system for the extraction. With the help of the ocean current, plastic pieces ranging in size from several meters to a few millimeters can be collected without disturbing local ecosystems. The collected plastic will be recycled and reused for new products. Currently, the systems are primarily used to clean up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, but are expected to help eliminate plastic waste globally in the future.
